Bangkok, THAILAND - Day 2 [Aug 24, 2008]

Breakfast was provided at the hotel cafe. Not a bad spread indeed.

Today, we proceed to visit the famous weekend market - Chatuchak Weekend Market aka Jatujak Market. Look at the old and new maps. It is a big place!! And not forgetting, HOT!!

Bangkok, THAILAND - Day 1 [Aug 23, 2008]

This is the first time I visited Bangkok. After hearing so much about Bangkok from so many people, I finally made my maiden trip to this land of the Thai.

Hotel - Grand China Princess @ China Town

We were given the Princess Suite on the 17th floor as they were out of Deluxe rooms. Cool~!

Can't put all the pictures here but at least you can have an idea the amount of shopping one can do at China Town. By the way, they are whole sellers so you can get cheaper prices if you buy more than 3 items or more. Do plan your purchases.

Saw a number of shops selling big grandfather clocks too.

And 2 new Ferrari on display... on the busy road of China Town. They were doing some photo shoot right outside the China Town Scala Restaurant.

So much for the day... never realized shopping can be very tiring too. =p

Southern Ridges - SINGAPORE [May 17, 2008]

Heard over the news that the nature tracks on Southern Ridges has been newly "renovated" with new connections (bridges) and trails. See the full feature here - Discovering the Southern Ridges.

Thought I would be lonely on the trip but to my surprise, there are so many people keeping me company!! OK, so it's not just me who likes walking under the hot Sun.

By the way, this is going to be a long post as there are over 100 photos which I have taken. You can click on the photos for an enlarged copy (to see better).

The newspapers suggested a route starting from Harbour Front MRT station Exit D, and make your way to West Coast Park. This is a very very long route of almost 9km. However, the main highlights would be between Kent Ridge Park and Harbour Front. See the feature for their details.

I did my hike as per suggestion but I think it would be a better idea to start from Canopy Walk (Kent Ridge Park) and end at Harbour Front MRT instead. The reason? The route will be mostly downhill from this end. You can see that from the photo blog below.

Here we go...

Marang Trail

From Exit D of Harbour Front MRT station, this will be the start of the Marang Trail. It's a uphill task with a lot of stairs to climb. First stop, full of energy rite? You will find your energy draining faster than you expected. According to information provided, this trail "covers an elevation of 70 metres (or the equivalent of a 24-storey building)". Don't pray pray!

See the number of stairs or steps, if you prefer?! Up and up...

Faber Walk

The end of Marang Trail brings you to Mount Faber.

The Jewel Box, waterfall and Cable Car Station (hidden).

From here, continue walking towards Henderson Waves.

On the whole trail, do slow down and look at all the beautiful floral along the way. Here are some of them...

Henderson Waves

Follow the signs and you will be on track for the Henderson Waves. Continue walking...

"At 36 metres above Henderson Road, Henderson Waves is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore. It was built to connect the two hills of Mount Faber and Telok Blangah Hill."

Look who's looking at ya!

From the info board, the bridge will be lighted up at night. It looks great on the picture on the board. Maybe should make another trip here at night.

Hilltop Walk

Once across the Henderson Waves you will land yourself at Telok Blangah Hill Park. At the Hilltop Walk, you will see familiar structures which you have seen on TV.

The trail is up Terrace Garden. I gave it a miss and detour on flat ground instead. Enough of climbing. =p

Forest Walk

This can be a cool place as it's a maze of metal railings that connects to the Alexandra Arch. The distance is 1.3km and ends at the Alexandra Arch.

I bet it will be even more interesting when on this trail at night. It's flooded with LED lightings at the base of the walkway. Forgot to snap a picture of it though. OK, shall come again at night.

Alexandra Arch

Here we are... a small overhead bridge across Alexandra Road. Not that mighty but it's part of the trail.

HortPark is next...

Floral Walk & HortPark - the gardening Hub

Once you get off the Alexandra Arch, continue into HortPark as this will be your gateway to the next attraction - Canopy Walk.

Here at HortPark, you can see many plants and decos with plants. If you are not the green fingers kind, this could be boring. Head off to the rear gate if you are.

Canopy Walk

Continue on from the rear gate of HortPark is the track to Canopy Walk. And so walk again... another uphill task!!

2 civilizations at the end of the walk...

From Canopy Walk, you can continue all the way to West Coast Park if you still have the energy and determination.

I chose to end my hike here and go home.

And if you choose to start from this end, this is where you should head to - Pepys Road.
